Why Invisalign Braces are Good for Teens
March 6, 2013 by Dr. Emanuel Layliev Invisalign
Remember the old style of braces that wrapped metal bands around your teeth and then strung rubber bands around them to tighten your teeth? Not only were the mouths full of unsightly metal, they were painful and caused a lot problems for the wearer. They couldn’t eat certain foods and if they played sports and got hit in the mouth, the results could be devastating. Luckily, today’s cosmetic dentist doesn’t rely on the old style metal braces, but uses Invisalign, the clear, improved style of braces. At the New York Center for Cosmetic Dentistry, we make use of Invisalign braces and want to talk to you about why they’re the best choice for your teen.
They Don’t Hurt
The braces of yesteryear were notorious for causing sores when the wires poked the wearer in the mouth. Sometimes those wires cut the wearer’s mouth, causing painful sores that were only aggravated until a dental appointment could be made to fix the offending wire. The common remedy for these problems were to wax the braces. All of that is eliminated with Invisalign so your teen won’t have to suffer.
Ask any parent of a teen and they’ll tell you that the number one way to make them do something is to make it easy. Luckily, Invisalign braces are easy wear, and after fitting them, Dr. Jeff Golub Evans will talk to your teen about how to wear them and take care of them.
They Don’t Break
The bands on conventional braces are known to snap at the most inconvenient times. When this happens, you’ll have to get your teen to the cosmetic dentist as soon as possible. On the other hand, with Invisalign braces, there are no bands to break.
Sports are No Problem
If you have a teen that plays sports, the last thing you want are metal pieces sticking out their mouth. A ball can hit them in the face, causing extensive damage, or another player can collide with them. The metal wires can poke through their skin, or cause sores and scrapes that are painful. You won’t have to worry about your teen getting hit in the mouth when they wear Invisalign braces because they are made from soft plastic that conforms to the wearer’s mouth.
