Artistry

Born in New York City to a Fauvist painter, Jeff Evans studied at Hamilton College, at the National Academy of Fine Arts and at New York University’s Graduate Division of Fine Arts. He studied printmaking with master printers Bob Blackburn and Krishna Reddy. Extensive traveling in the United States, Europe, South America, Asia and a desire to capture the mood and rhythm of each location greatly influenced his work. Evans often sought out local materials and incorporated their energy into his art, including paint, paper and especially water from Venetian Canals, Indonesian Rice Paddies, Amazonian Mountain Stream and European Rivers.

Evans’ works were held in private and corporate collections, including American Express, Republic Bank, The Hard Rock Café, Hyatt Hotels, Embassy Suites, as well as displayed on gallery and museum walls. Evans’ works were represented by Michael & Lombardo Gallery on Madison Avenue, NYC; Artsee in the Meatpacking District, NYC; Mario Villa Gallery in Chicago, IL; Copiapo Gallery, Sedona, AZ; Artifacts Gallery, West Stockbridge, MA. His woodcuts of Balinese scenes were acquired by the National Museum in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia.

Weaving traditional media and contemporary themes into original compositions of astonishing depth, his pieces started with woodcuts or etchings, collaged, reworked and reincarnated through layering, pasting and rendering in acrylics and oils. In his “Reflections of Venice,” the brightly colored images mirror and capture the spirit of Venice to resonate like the disjointed memories of a dream. Each piece is like a classical fragment; a paean to spirit, starkly contrasted and far removed from its time. -Décor Magazine

As a sculptor, Evans was commissioned to design, sculpt and cast an “Academy Award” to be given yearly for the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. His two large fiberglass bears were on display for a public works project in Northwest Connecticut and he had constructed a wooden Trojan horse for the Children’s Museum of Manhattan. He was planning a show of yoga figures for exhibits in Lower Manhattan, South Beach, Miami and Athens, Greece before his sudden passing.

Dr. Golub-Evans’ credits include dental costuming for numerous theatrical and cinematic productions, including more than a dozen films and the dental special effects for the New York Shakespeare Festival and Broadway’s Tony Award winners, Les Misérables and Big River. He was the creator and patent holder of the Silkwrap technique, the first use of internal structural components for advanced composite techniques.
