What is CariVu?

CariVu is a state of the art device that has revolutionized caries (cavity) detection. It utilizes a patented transillumination technology that allows a dental professional to see through teeth by making the enamel translucent under its lighting.

What are the benefits of using CariVu for cavity detection?

Normally, cavities are detected with the use of an x-ray machine but this method is not 100% effective or accurate. The transillumination technology utilized by CariVu can find cracks and holes in the teeth that an x-ray machine could normally miss. When cavities and cracks in the teeth are in an early stage of development, CariVu is much more effective at spotting them. This in turn helps us recommend appropriate treatments earlier which can help to prevent a major and potentially costly dental problem in the future.

With the ability to visualize in and around tooth structure and filling material, we can detect the three dimensional condition to truly diagnose a potential issue comprehensively. This added benefit allows to pinpoint, with greater accuracy, the direction of care. In certain cases, a cavity can be left unnoticed through traditional two-dimensional x-rays; but, CariVu detects the lesion very clearly.

Some of our patients have always been skeptical of getting an x-ray done on their teeth but with CariVu uses laser fluorescence for cavity detection which is completely safe and free of any potentially harmful radiation.
