3 Bad Teeth Habits You Should Break Now

Everyone wants a clean and healthy smile, but some bad habits can actually harm your teeth. If you’re guilty of any of these bad teeth habits, you should try to break them now so they don’t ruin your teeth in the long run.

Not Flossing

Flossing between your teeth at least once a day is an important step in preventing cavities and gum disease. When you floss between your teeth, you remove a sticky substance called plaque, which has bacteria that like to feed on food particles in your mouth. When the bacteria eat, they release an acid that eats away at enamel and causes cavities.flossing

Not Brushing Often Enough

You need to brush your teeth at least twice a day for two minutes each time. When you brush, don’t scrub your toothbrush side to side along your teeth. Instead, picture that you’re giving your teeth a massage. You want to use small, circular, up-and-down motions starting at the gums and working your way to the tip of the tooth. Bacteria love to hang out on the gum line and tongue, so don’t forget to brush these spots as well.

Nail Biting

Not only can biting your nails lead to more colds and other illnesses, but this bad habit can also chip your teeth and impact your jaw. Holding your jaw in a protruding position for a long period of time can put pressure on it, which can cause jaw pain. If you bite your nails because of stress, consider squeezing a stress ball or other object to keep your hands busy. Wearing bitter nail polish can also help curb your desire to bite your nails.
