As an adult, dealing with a loose tooth is a real headache. Whenever a permanent tooth becomes loose, it is a good idea to visit the dentist as soon as possible. You might be able to search your specific symptoms on the internet, but it usually ends up with you looking at a bunch of unpleasant images of rotting teeth. Instead, read up on what you should do below.

See a Dentist ASAP

That being said, you should go to your dentist as soon as possible to get your problem properly diagnosed — it could be one of many issues, and there are multiple things your dentist can do to help. Self-diagnosing dental issues is not a good idea, especially since it is so hard to see inside your mouth and decide what is actually going on. What’s more, getting pro advice can help prevent problems in the future.

Periodontal Disease

Looseness can often be a result of periodontal (a fancy word for gums) decay or disease. Periodontal bacteria attacks the important tissues that hold the teeth in place. This is usually the result of poor dental hygiene, but it could also be genetic. If your family has genetically bad gums, you could have periodontal diseases no matter how little sugar you eat or how great your dental hygiene is.

Possible Solutions for Loose Teeth

Besides pulling your loose tooth and replacing it with a crown, there are several possible solutions. First of all, a deep cleaning could remove any decay that is causing the tooth to be loose. Your gums can begin to heal themselves once the decay is removed. Splinting is another solution, where a splint is attached to the loose tooth and the solid tooth next to it to prevent any further movement. Bite adjustment is another method that takes pressure off of the loose tooth and prevents too much movement that could slow down the healing process.

Don’t freak out if you have a loose tooth, because the solution might be simple and painless, and the problem could be temporary. Simply consult the pros, and you’ll be one step closer to the smile you’ve always wanted.
